Hi!! I’m Amy Anshaw-Nye, and welcome to Limerence!
I started writing books with queer characters when I was 15. I never thought anybody would read them. I didn’t think anybody would ever publish them. It was all just for me. The writing life I have today is something beyond teenage-me’s wildest dreams.
Here, you’ll see my talking about my writing and my process, about living authentically, about creating through the fear. But mostly, this is a love letter to the queer community.
As a queer person, books with queer characters have especially been my refuge. I’ve been influenced by amazing LGBTQIA+ writers who have come before me (namely my queen, Sarah Waters). I’ve been writing all my life, primarily because all I’ve ever wanted was to create that refuge for others – especially for other queer people.
And that’s what this newsletter is, too. An extension of that refuge. And now I’m free to live authentically, that refuge has transformed into community. Here is a community for queer people, for people looking for connection, for people who want levity in their tragedy, for people who want to see queer characters in mainstream genre fiction, for people who just want queer characters to have their happy ending (!!!)
Being a writer is my happy ending. Being part of this beautiful, messy, iconic, loving, hilarious, wider queer community is my happy ending. Thanks so much for being a part of it.
